Choose Your Core System

All Pro Tools|HD Core systems come with award-winning Pro Tools HD software, a powerful bundle of professional virtual instrument and sound processing plug-ins, and one or more dedicated DSP (digital signal processor) cards that reside in your computer to provide processing power.

Choose an Audio Interface

Once you've picked a Core system, you'll also need at least one Pro Tools|HD audio interface to complete your basic system. Choose from several that offer a variety of analog and digital I/O, and up to 192 kHz sample rates. In addition, you can add interfaces that provide mic and line-level I/O, MIDI I/O, and sync capabilities.

In the case of both the GXA8 and GXD8, audio excellence lies at the heart of the design philosophy. DSP-free circuitry eliminates potential distortion from asynchronous address and data buses, while the analog stages exhibit ultra-low noise and distortion figures, with performance in this area further enhanced by the lower operating temperatures afforded by the well-ventilated 2U chassis

The GXA8 A-D Converter translates eight channels of balanced analog audio into 24-bit digital audio, with all channels sampled at rates up to 192kHz. Outputs are available in a variety of digital audio formats with AES3 fitted as standard, supporting four channels of 24-bit/192kHz in dual-wire mode or eight channels of 24-bit/96kHz in single-wire mode. An optional AES expansion card provides eight channels of 24-bit/192kHz in dual-wire mode, with cards also available to support eight channels of SDIF2, ADAT and TDIF output.

The GXD8 D-A Converter also operates in PCM formats up to 24-bit/192kHz and, with an optional card, in DSD mode. Digital audio can be input in a variety of formats with AES3 available as standard. Optional cards are available for AES expansion, SDIF2, ADAT, TDIF and, in the near future, IEEE1394. In a unique feature, the high-stability crystal oscillator clock used for the conversion process is buffered and brought out to the rear panel allowing the digital source device to lock to the GXD8’s DACs, eliminating externally induced jitter from the conversion process.

Don't have any empty PCI or PCIe slots in your computer to accommodate extra DSP cards? Get an expansion chassis and employ up to seven HD Core/Accel cards in a single Pro Tools|HD system. Choose from the 7-slot Digidesign® PCIe-to-PCIe Expansion Chassis or the 6-slot Magma PE6R4 Expansion Chassis.

Synchronize

Accommodating the high sample rates supported by Pro Tools|HD® with the utmost accuracy, SYNC HD^TM attains near sample-accurate lock to serial timecode (via RS-422), LTC, or bi-phase/tach signals. It incorporates a high-fidelity, low-jitter master Word Clock that supports operations up to 192 kHz as well as standard pull-up/pull-down rates for film and video applications. SYNC HD also features AES/EBU clock I/O, SD and HD video reference in/thru, video program in/out with timecode window inserter, and a host of other features, making it the obvious choice for professional Pro Tools|HD installations in commercial music and post-production facilities.
